Panino Giusto, a
Milanese restaurant of 34 years has opened its first doors in London.
Specialising in the ‘panino’ (a small bread roll in Italian, and the correct
term for the widely used panini sandwich), Panino Giusto praises itself on high
quality produce sourced directly from Italy. Expect 24 month aged cured Parma
ham, Tyrollian Speck and Braesola from Valtellina (salted beef), served on
crusty bread from their Italian baker, drizzled with aromatic olive and truffle
oils.
A bit of food, a bit of travel, a bit of fun: Once upon a time, a Russian girl grew up in Australia, and moved to London. The existing love of food and travel grew.

Chalet Marmotte - Champagny
![]() |
| View from outside Chalet |
Having never been on a ‘Chalet’ ski holiday before, the word
on the ‘slopes’ is that our experience at Barrelli Ski in Champagny France is up there
with the best.
“We had a live in
qualified chef” – I say, “Wow, you
were lucky we had some 20-something-all-I-care-about-is-snowboarding-guy” – they
say.
It’s true, Chef Kevin and his partner Lou made that last icy
red-run to the village well worth the stacks when coming home to freshly baked
cakes, hot tea/coffee and French baguettes so crusty and fresh that even nutella
was not worthy of their flesh.
Home made croissants and poached eggs were just the icing on
the cake for breakfast while dinners were the real highlight. Having only one
opportunity to do a weekly shop the guys really outdone themselves every night.

Pollen Street Social

| Dessert Bar - Photo Pollen Street Social |
This vibrant and unpretentious establishment has been a very busy social butterfly since opening its doors in April 2011. Although this was not the intention Pollen St earned a Michelin star within 6 months of opening and was named best new UK restaurant by the good food guide 2012. This is no small achievement and is definitely reflected in the creative dishes, the service and the relaxed yet vibrant atmosphere.

Brown's Hotel Afternoon Tea
Founded in 1837 Brown’s Hotel is one of the most established
5 star hotels in London. Walking distance to Green Park and Hyde Park and smack
bang in the middle of Mayfair this hotel really needs no further explanations. And
while a stay at Brown’s might be a big splurge for most, relaxing in their
English Tea Room is accessible to all and is highly recommended.
The English Tea Room offers afternoon tea and light snacks
and has been doing so since the mid nineteenth century. However there is
nothing dated about this offering, in fact Brown’s has a great number of
options including tea-tox; a healthy version of their award-wining traditional
afternoon tea. Healthy eating has never been more prominent and this sugar
free, low fat and low carb option is very much on trend. And I can assure you
that this option is still as indulgent and decadent as the traditional one. I
should know, we had both!
| Tea Tox on left and Traditional on right |
As hard as it is to stay away from the traditional and tasty freshly cut sandwiches and scones with clotted cream & jam, the tea-tox smoked chicken & quacamole on spelt bread and poached salmon & dill creme fraiche on dark rye definitely stepped up to the challenge. The sea buckthorn jelly cut through some of the sweetness present in the other dessert options while the orange cake and flourless chocolate cake made me wonder whether they were on the right tray! You can eat as much and drink as much tea as fits into your stomach and for £39.50 this elegant experience is very good value.
The Victorian tea room is comfortable and warm and the atmosphere is radiant with music coming from the piano. Our waiter ensured our tea cups were always full and our plates never empty. As far as my experiences go with afternoon tea, this has been my number one.

Clapham South Side
I have only just discovered what could be two of the top foodie establishments around Clapham: The Rookery (B) and Abeville Kitchen (A), both situated half way between Clapham Common and Clapham South. Although the design concepts may be different, the overall ideas are the same: changing seasonal menu around well sourced seasonal ingredients.
